Club Sapphire Merimbula has been awarded The People�s Choice for the best registered club in Australia. The award was announced on Sunday June 3 and the club industry event. The club received over 14,000 votes which is amazing for a club of this size.

CEO Damian Foley accepted the award on behalf of the club and the staff and said he was proud of the work that the club had achieved. The club will receive a $10,000 cash prize which will be shared with a local charity of their choice.

A light aircraft landed without incident at Merimbula Airport after the plane's warning system notified the pilot of a mechanical problem with its landing gear.

The pilot of the private plane notified Merimbula Airport staff at about 4.30pm, Friday, May 4, that a warning light had indicated that one of the undercarriage wheels was not locked into position.

�

Emergency services were notified and were quickly on the scene as the plane came in to land.

The plane landed without incident and it is believed a faulty warning light may be to blame.

In March 2012 Merimbula celebrated it's centenary marking 100 years since it was gazetted as a town. As part of a week long celebrations, the RAAF Roulettes put on a spectacular air show above the skies of Merimbula. Other events during the celebration included a visit from Connie the aircraft and Dick Smith who buired a time capsual outside the Merimbula museum.
