Stage 2 of Footpath to re-commence
Stage 2 of the Footpath project will re-commence after the Easter School Holidays come to an end. Work had commenced earlier in Februarybut was held up again due to problem with the funding arrangements. Now that this issued are resolved there should be no stopping the completion of the work when it commences this time.
The first step will be to remove the existing footpath and replace it with pavers including the engraved pavers that people have purchased. MACA spokesman Nigel Ayling says "People have been very patient waiting for the completion of the project. We have hit a number of hurdles along the way but I think the end result will be well worth it."
Orders for pavers are now closed and the pavers hae all been printed and are in storage at the council depot. Ayling said " The feedback on the work completed to date has been fantastic, every loved the fence and the big decorative pavers which were designed by local artist Leslie Brown. It will be great to see the work finally completed in the next few months."
Works will commence at the Ice Cream shop at the corner of Market St and Monaro Sts and will go through to where the works finished near the bridge. The entrance to the Marina will not be replaced at this stage as it could be damaged when works commence on the upgrade to the wharf.
The works will require some machinery and will impact on the road usage and parking for a period of time, but delays and inconvenience should be minimal.
The end result should be a much improved walkway that will compliment the beautiful Merimbula Lake.
